Brain Stuff

Today I was talking to a...pharmapsychologist, I think she said, and she was explaining that the part of the brain that deals with depression is on the opposite side of that which is responsible for psychosis. They respond to totally different stimuli and treatments are not at all similar for the two things. She was talking about a case, currently in court, dealing with guy who killed one of his parents and is blaming the antidepressants he was taking. It really bothered her that so much "bull" was being flung around by people with no clue what they were talking about. Yes, she said, it would not be a good thing to just stop all medication, which it appears this man did, but the meds were for depression and not for the psychotic behavior that he had been exhibiting. If he was psychotic, he should have been on a completely different med directed at problems on the other side of the brain. Sure, the Prozac (or whatever,) would have removed any depression he was dealing with but all that would have done is make it possible for him to be relaxed and cheerful as he committed murder. Doctors, please medicate responsibly!
